For today’s Project Spotlight, we’re taking a look at a roof replacement we completed following a hail damage insurance claim. This San Antonio homeowner originally had her damage claim denied, but she wasn’t willing to take no for an answer. She called on the Dolan team and we helped build her case and deliver her a roof that would better weather the next round of Texas storms.
Background & Client: A San Antonio Homeowner Facing Roof Leaks
For this project, we were called in by this San Antonio homeowner after her insurance claim for hail damage had been denied. Following her denied claim, she decided to take matters into her own hands and find a roofer that could assist in her desire to advocate for herself and get her claim accepted.
Ultimately she was referred to us by a previous client of ours who knew the Dolan Roofing & Construction team had long-established expertise in storm restoration and insurance claims. She called and owner Johnny Dolan opted to take on this project himself.
The Challenges: Dead Valleys and a Denied Hail Damage Insurance Claim
This homeowner had noticed a new roof leak on her property following a major hail storm. She had documented hail damage on her property and submitted a claim to her insurance company. However, a few days later they called and said her claim was denied.
In addition, during our inspection process the DRC team identified problem areas on her roof. In particular, we spotted dead valleys that were creating drainage issues and would continue to cause leaks if left unaddressed.
Our Solution: Full Inspection & Documentation
This is where Dolan Roofing & Construction came on the scene. Following the denied claim, this homeowner reached out to us and we sent a team to inspect her roof right away. We completed a full inspection with thorough photo documentation that would help build her case and enable the insurance company to understand the full extent of the damage.
Our team submitted our estimate to the insurance company and they sent an insurance adjuster to complete a secondary inspection the next day. Between the photos we provided and the follow-up inspection, they agreed with our assessment and approved the full roof replacement.
The Result: Approved Roof Replacement
With the replacement approved, our team got to work! We removed the old roofing system and carefully planned for drainage to resolve the dead valley problems the old roof had been facing. This would prevent leaks in the future, better protecting the entire home from moisture damage.
Our team also repaired areas of the plywood decking and replaced trim at the soffits to fully restore this roofing system. Finally, we ensured the entire roof was brought up to code with new materials and worked on supplementals with the insurance company to ensure all of this work was covered. During the replacement, we replaced the old three-tab roof shingles with architectural HDZ shingles from GAF. The greater durability would provide superior hail and storm damage protection.
