San Antonio Roofing Contractors Help Local Veteran Through Roofing Work

Dolan Roofing & Construction was contacted about a veteran whose insurance company was requiring that his roof be replaced. Through connections in the community, our team got involved, assisting with acquiring materials and installing a new roof. Let’s take a look at how this project unfolded.
Background & Client: A Local San Antonio Veteran
This project was completed to help a local veteran in need. Dolan Roofing & Construction’s Charles Price was contacted through church connections about a veteran in the area in need of roofing work. He had been told by his insurance company that in order to keep his homeowners insurance policy, he would need to have his roof replaced immediately.
While this is an unfortunate circumstance, it’s one we’ve heard about several times. Local insurance carriers are not willing to cover aging roofing systems in our area, especially given the high threat of hail. Insurance coverage may be dropped due to roofs reaching the end of their lifespan, poor maintenance, or due to high-risk materials such as wood shake roofing. Without the funds to cover such an unexpected and sudden expense, folks close to this veteran sought San Antonio roofing contractors to lend a hand. When we heard about the situation, our team was eager to help out.
The Project: A Full Roof Replacement
When we assessed the roof, we immediately saw why the insurance company had made the decision to potentially drop coverage. The roof was very old and showed significant signs of aging, deterioration, and storm damage.
Our task would be to fully replace this roofing system. This would include not just the surface shingles and underlayment, but the decking of the roof in many areas as well.
Before: Heavy Deterioration and Damage
The before images we collected really illustrate the state of this roof before the Dolan Roofing & Construction team started work. The shingles had been worn down significantly, with nearly full loss of asphalt granules in many places. Signs of hail impacts were apparent across the roof, and during tearoff we found that much of the underlayment was compromised. The roof’s decking would also need to be replaced in many areas.
After: A Renewed Roof—and Renewed Coverage
Dolan Roofing & Construction donated both materials and labor to make this project happen. We selected high-quality products for the job, installing new decking, a full GAF underlayment system including ice and water shield, and GAF Natural Shadow shingles in Weathered Wood.
Here in San Antonio, roofing systems need complete protection in order to weather the strong storms we regularly face. This new, complete roofing system will provide excellent protection and significantly reduce the insurance liability of the roof, meeting the requirements to complete a replacement and ensuring our client could keep his coverage.
Of course, the after images really illustrate the transformation as well. Not only will the roof perform better in the face of adverse weather conditions, but it added to the overall curb appeal of this lovely home. It’s a wonder what a new roof can do for the look of a home!
