Throughout this project, we coordinated closely with SA Youth to minimize disruptions and provide the most reliable, cost-effective solutions we could to protect their property. Here’s how our team completed this TPO roof replacement.
Background and Client: San Antonio Youth
San Antonio Youth, or SA Youth for short, is a San Antonio-based nonprofit organization that has served as a critical resource for at-risk youth in our area since 1984. According to their website’s mission statement, SA Youth “empowers San Antonio’s high-risk youth and young adults to achieve their full potential by providing quality educational programming in a safe environment.”
Their headquarters is a large commercial building where they host a wide range of programs, including educational activities and other events, along with needed services like nutrition and therapeutic services in a safe environment. Over the years, the existing low-slope roofing system had begun to fail and they sought a commercial roofing company to provide a long-term solution to protect the property.
The Project: Find a Long-Lasting Roofing Solution
San Antonio Youth began looking for local San Antonio roofing companies, and with our expertise in TPO and a wide range of other commercial roofing solutions, they requested a quote for our team. When we visited the property, we found their existing modified bitumen roof was in very poor shape and would present challenges with installing a new roof. Ultimately, our experts recommended TPO roofing for this replacement project, as it would be the most cost-effective solution for the property owners.
Before: A Deteriorating Roof in More Trades Than One
To say the existing roofing system was in poor shape may be an understatement. The modified bitumen roofing had deteriorated significantly, leading to issues with leaks throughout the building. To address these issues, we recommended a layover installation, which required careful surface preparation before installing the new TPO roofing system.
In addition, we found issues that expanded beyond the scope of roofing. This included pipe conduits that had rusted and exposed electrical wiring in places on the roof. These would need to be repaired or replaced as well to provide a new roofing system that would adequately provide for the needs of the building.
After: New TPO Roofing to Protect the Property
What began as a TPO roof installation wound up calling on many of our problem-solving skills as one of San Antonio’s top commercial roofing companies. We worked to thoroughly prepare the roofing system for the new TPO and ensure that the new installation would last for its expected lifespan.
The Dolan Roofing & Construction team also coordinated carefully with both SA Youth, so as not to disrupt their programs throughout the week, and with two electrical companies who provided quotes to ensure the electrical components for the roof-mounted AC units were safely operational.
Ultimately, the bulk of this project was completed over the weekend, with more than 140 squares of roofing installed between summer programs hosted at the facility. The result, however, was a new roofing system that will provide much greater protection for their headquarters and ensure the continuation of their youth programs.
